Kerala's tourism industry took a hit during the pandemic like many other places around the world. During the breaks between the Pandemic waves, there was a revenge travel happening within Keralites, helping the tourism sector to avail some relief. However it could be 2023, the year where tourism is coming back in its full swing and it is the domestic tourist movemnet in the state that is making the tourism industry busy.   • Foreign Tourist arrival to Kerala during the year 2021 is 60,487. It shows a decrease of 82.25 % over the previous year’s figure of 3,40,755.

  • Domestic Tourist arrival to Kerala during the year 2021 is 75,37,617. It shows an increase of 51.09 % over the previous year’s figure 49,88,972.


Tourist arrival details to Kerala for 2022

  • Foreign Tourist visits to Kerala during the year 2022 are 3,45,549. Foreign Tourist visits to Kerala during the year 2021 are 60,487. The year 2022 shows an increase of 471.28 % over the previous year’s figure. But there is a decrease of 70.96% of Foreign Tourists over the figures of the year 2019 .

  • Domestic Tourist visits to Kerala during the year 2022 are 1,88,67,414. Domestic Tourist visits to Kerala during the year 2021 is 75,37,617. The year 2022 shows an increase of 150.31 % over the previous year’s figure. Also the year 2022 records an increase of 2.63% of Domestic Tourists over the figures of the year 2019.


Estimated tourist arrival details to Kerala for 2023

15.6 million domestic tourists have already visited Kerala during the initial nine months of the Calender year 2023. This is a considerable uptrend relative to 13.8 million domestic visitors for the first nine months of 2022.


There has been considerable foreign tourist moment to Kerala for 2023. Even though there has been higher inflation and fear of recessions in the traditional European markets of Kerala, things are improving and it is estimated that the foreign arrivals would be much better for the inbound movement in the state for 2024.


There have been around 60 cruise liners confirmed their call on Cochin Port for the coming two years until 2025, which will help improve the foot fall of international tourist arrival in Kerala.


The winter of 2023 has been very promising for Kerala tourism and the numbers will surge relative to the numbers of the previous years. Most destinations are sold out during the peak holiday season.


India's growth story and higher disposable income for the urban class has lead to larger spending in the travel industry. Better connectivity to other Indian cities from Kerala has also brought in more guests to popular tourist destinations of Kerala.
